BuilSpec FAQ

What is BuilSpec?
BuilSpec is a series of one-day educational seminars organized by Clasma, Inc. in partnership with Consulting-Specifying Engineer (C-SE). The objective is to bring much needed education on the dynamics of open systems, integration and IT convergence to building owners, facility managers, consulting and specifying engineers.
How does BuilSpec relate to BuilConn?
BuilConn is the annual industry gathering to advance the subject of convergence. BuilSpec, on the other hand, is taking that subject on the road to the engineering community, people who need to know how all of this will impact how they go about specifying and designing building systems.
Is the content going to be objective?
Unbiased objectivity is one of the most important criteria of the BuilSpec content. Unlike many vendor- or technology-based seminars, BuilSpec is not tied to any specific angle of technology, approach or vendor. Our mission is to explain the facts about the relevant technologies in a balanced and meaningful manner so as to help move the industry along in delivering value to building owners and the industry.
Will BuilSpec deal with the open systems issue?
BuilSpec will explain what open systems is, why it is good, and how to navigate the numerous technologies and approaches in designing and specifying open systems. BuilSpec attendees will leave with a clearer understanding about how to help implement open systems in the buildings they are designing or specifying.
Who is developing the content?
As a result of organizing BuilConn, we have access to a very significant network of experts and material sources in all corners of the industry. Additionally, we have the contribution of the editorial teams at C-SE who are without doubt the best group as far as knowledge about the issues facing engineers today. Subject matters such as LonWorks, BACnet, oBIX, Wireless, Master specification, TCP/IP and XML will be collated together and explained in a manner that will be immediately useful to engineers.
How is BuilSpec an educational event?
BuilSpec will deliver factual information about key topics that are affecting building engineers today. The information delivered will be unbiased, objective and not driven by commercial agendas.
How will BuilSpec sponsors present themselves?
In separate sessions from the educational material, sponsors will be provided a brief opportunity to present their perspective on the new technologies and issues facing building engineers. Attendees will also be able to network with sponsors during breaks and meals.
